Japan Tax Refund Calculator is an independent, free tool made by a student developer living in Japan. When Japan moved tax-free shopping to a refund system in November 2026, I wanted a simple way for visitors to check what they'll get back before they reach the airport.
How we keep it accurate
- The rules come from the Japan Tourism Agency and National Tax Agency, linked on every page.
- The calculation logic is covered by automated tests.
- Each page shows the date the rules were last checked.
This site is not affiliated with the Government of Japan, any shop, or any refund service. Results are estimates; the shop or its refund service makes the final calculation.
